John Burke started his business by the inspiration of his Father. Acting on a leap of faith, John quit his machinist job in a local mining repair machine shop and ventured out into the business world."I remember that I only had 1 full week of work backlogged. I knew I could make it ! I wanted to establish an Industrial Job Shop with diverse capabilities, like none other in the region."

Burke Tool & Manufacturing Inc. started in 1978 under the name of Star Manufacturing Company located in Hurst, Ill. I then moved to Tamaroa, Ill. in 1979 to a rented building on East Main St. I sold New and Used Machinery of all types, and built special machines, tooling for all area industries. I sharpened and rebuilt dies for Turco Manufacuturing Inc., Swingset and Gas GrillDivisions. (*Later Charmglow Outdoor Lesiure Products Inc. and Sunbeam Corporation) Built a lot of New dies for Production Lines, started In House Heat Treating. Purchased 4 Surface Grinders to keep up with the flow of business from Turco/Sunbeam/Charmglow alone.

I have extensive expertise in progressive die building and maintenance. The name of the business was changed in 1985 to Burke Manufacturing Company. Then incorporated in 1987 with the legal name of Burke Tool & Manufacturing Inc. In Tamaroa I designed and built the Superliner* Bulletproof Tire System*, this work was done for Wright Patterson Airforce Base in Ohio I designed a tire washing machine and filling machine. The washer removed mold release from the tire casings and the filling machine filled each tire with a polymer that caused the tire to "Self Heal" even it shot with 20 Nato rounds the tire would retain the pressure for it to function properly. Two versions were built a prototype version and a versitile production version. Jet tires, Hummer and Truck tires were filled and utilized first in the Desert Storm conflict in Iraq and today in all phases of military trucks, passenger & fighting vehicles. It was good to have a role in keeping our military safe and at a high standard of rediness!

The company was moved to a much larger facility at 339 East Olive Street, DuQuoin, Ill. in 1990 . Another Location has been recently added at 1237 Industrial Park Boulevard in May of 2002.

We have recently added a New Haas SL-30 Turning Center, a Brother Drilling & Tapping Machine a Kia Turning Center, Hurco & Kira Horizontal High Speed Horizontal, NTC & Mori Seiki Flexible Machining Centers, Rockford Hydraulic Slotter, and a Haas HS1-RP Full 4 Axis* Horizontal Machining Center to our lineup, we can now run more complicated parts, even spiral/Helical milling "in house".

Like most job shops we service all the local industry and constantly reach out for accounts in other cities. We service accounts all over the country and Canada at this time, in all types of industries, the more diverse the better. Some of the products you use everyday may have had their start or may have been madeby Burke Tool & Manufacturing Incorporated.
